Eco Home in Hornby

A lovely couple approached us about our residential architecture, to design a new modern home for them to live in, within an overgrown orchard attached to their historic property in Hornby.
The Client needed the building to meet any future care needs they may have in terms of access, facilities, low maintenance and low running costs.
The building was to sit respectfully in its surrounding, with elements of modern and traditional architecture. The materials and look of the home needed to be natural, and connected to nature.
We developed a contemporary single storey timber clad dwelling, with low pitched roof, with overhangs for external seating. Floor to ceiling glazing to maximise natural light and heat, and connect the home to the garden.
The construction detail was to be holistic, designed to Passive House principles, with consideration to orientation, fabric first insulation, air tightness and low carbon energy saving heating systems.
The home sat nestled within the landscaped orchard which featured a pond used for rainwater harvesting, a wildflower meadow area, and mature planting due to our sustainable design.
Internally the home features an amazing open plan living space, master bedroom suite, and guest bedrooms.
